Originally released in 2017 by DICE, Star Wars Battlefront 2 had long been considered a finished chapter — no updates, no developer support, and fading interest. However, in May 2025, the game saw a shocking resurgence, climbing from 135th to 12th place in the U.S. sales chart.
According to a Circana report cited by IGN, Battlefront 2 outperformed several recent releases, including F1 25 and Capcom Fighting Collection 2, landing just behind Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
Analyst Mat Piscatella attributes this revival to the 20th-anniversary re-release of Revenge of the Sith and the ongoing popularity of the Andor series. On May 25, the game hit a new record for concurrent players. While activity dipped afterward, a June sale reignited interest again.
Still, the comeback isn’t without issues. The PC version, now unsupported, suffers from rampant cheating — particularly in Galactic Assault. With no cross-play, PC players are most affected.
